Tin Lizzy’s Cantina Comes to Kennesaw

By Chloe Braun

KENNESAW, Ga. – Tin Lizzy’s Cantina is coming to Kennesaw, Ga in mid-August, and will be the seventh location built.  Tin Lizzy’s Cantina is a “FlexMex” restaurant that started in Atlanta’s Buckhead.

The new location will be at 3470 George Busbee Parkway. It is expected that it will get many customers from Kennesaw State University since it is close to campus.

“We picked Kennesaw because it’s awesome. It’s the best location we could have possibly picked,” said Aaron Hobbs, general manager. “There is so much exposure, and we have done very little advertising and everyone is already really excited for us to open.”

What Will This Bring to Kennesaw

Tin Lizzy’s Cantina is not your typical restaurant, and is reasonably priced. It is designed to provide a hangout spot for friends and family.

“Tin Lizzy’s will bring a little bit of diversity, somewhere for everyone to go and relax and enjoy time with their friends and family,” said Hobbs.

A laid back, fun environment that features great service, affordable food and drinks, live music from local artists, a gathering spot for students, families, professionals and sports fans,” said Heather Stennis, marketing director.

What’s on the Menu?

Tin Lizzy’s Cantina is known for its diversity in its food items. They have 25 options of gourmet tacos, shareable dips, salads, skillets, seven house margaritas, five specialty margaritas and a variety of beers.

FlexMex is a common term used when explaining Tin Lizzy’s Cantina. FlexMex is similar to the meaning of Tex-Mex, but provides a variety of cultures’ influence upon the menu items.

“We have a proprietary blend of sour mix we use in our margaritas that nobody else has,” said Brent McGhee, area director.

It has five types of tacos that include veggie, chicken, steak and fish and shrimp tacos. The Lowcountry taco was a 2013 best taco winner. The Lowcountry taco consist of grilled shrimp, topped with chorizo, grilled onions, corn, tater tots, drizzled with spicy ranch and red peppers. Tin Lizzy’s will select the 2014 winner later this year.

“My favorite is the Southern Comfort Taco. It’s amazing. It has fried pickles on it,” said Hobbs.

How Did It Get Started

Tin Lizzy’s started in the upscale Atlanta neighborhood of Buckhead in 2005 when four friends came together from Florida State University, and realized their neighborhood needed a local spot that had affordable food and drinks.

They had a vision of a place where friends could come to have fun, watch sports, listen to live music, be surrounded by a fun environment and relax. There are a total of seven restaurants now, and all four guys still own each location.

Tin Lizzy’s Future

Tin Lizzy’s Cantina is expecting to have another location built in Duluth, Ga. The owners hope to expand their reach in the future. Tin Lizzy’s plans to build outside of Georgia in the future.
